Chapter V - Conclusion

This novel is completely backed up by an intelligent script telling and involving story. Written by George Orwell Animal Farm becomes the famous novel in the ten years after its publications.

Animal Farm is a name of a farm which is run and managed by the animals where the pigs as the leaders, the dogs as the pig’s guard and other animals as its society in the farm. The name of Animal Farm is a substitute name of the previous name that is Manor Farm, which is mastery by Human’s being. Animal Farm actually tells about the great change which is purposed to breakthrough the domination of class upon another class, but it gives birth to new model of domination which is created by the dominee class itself.

Animal Farm symbolizes the state where the diversities of society exist and become the field to express any political activities that can not be separated from their aspect of life. Animal Farm also expresses how the political situation attains the power and authorities which are colored by the struggles and conflicts. The conflict of interest always emerges in the middle of diversities and different outlook of each party.

Orwell was very selective in choosing the basic character of the animals to make perfect description of the real figures outside the text. Orwell vividly matched the characters of animals with the related figures as well as portrayed the stratification the class which exists in the totalitarian regime of Stalin. The basic character of Pigs that always referred as greedy successfully represent the tyrant of Stalin; the dogs referred to the Stalin’s agent and guard has resemblance with its natural characters; the cart horses that represent the unskilled workers describe in the real character of horses as the hard workers even slaves for human being. Then the donkeys, rabbits, ravens and others that perfectly represent the low class based on its characters.

By analyzing above aspects the writer concludes that Animal Farm is a satire of a great historical event that is Russian Revolution. Orwell, the author paint a vivid pictures of that event to make it perfectly real in the reader’s mind, and has successfully retell that event to its readers. Orwell also succeeded to criticize a totalitarian regime under Stalin by uncover any unwise policies made by him.

Hopefully, this thesis will give some benefits to the readers especially for those who want to know about the history of Russian Revolution, including its impact to the Russian people.

This novel also gives us a good lesson that a revolution for a massive social changes can be manipulated or deviated by some people to serve their own interest, it also showed the frailty of human being where the good will turn to be evil when meet the self-interest. Another lesson is that whenever and wherever the conflict of interest will possibly emerge because human is by nature endowed with the character to be the dominant; that is why any betrayal or abuse often happens in any rank of organization when the sense to serve self-interest is more powerful than the sense of responsibility and solidarity.
